Directions to Start

From M5 junction 24 head into Bridgwater on the A38. At traffic lights turn left onto A39 towards Minehead. Follow A39 to Cannington. Turn right into Cannington and then look for turning to Hinkley and Combwich on right. Follow this road, ignore turn to Combwich and take next right at top of hill to Otterhampton and Steart. Take next right and follow this minor road ignoring sandy parking area on right hand bend. Continue to Steart. Parking and Start is in English Nature car park on left.

Route

This leg follows the new official route all the way. The official start of the trail is the large bird hide in the nature reserve. Our start point will be from the car park and then head out to the coast and follow path into the nature reserve via a gate / stile. Immediately turn right heading for a gate on your right. From now on you can follow the trail signs.

  • Once out on to the tarmac road ensure you take a left onto permissive path, which leads you towards your first glimpse of the tidal Parrett (2 miles).
  • Follow riverbank to Combwich, be careful to take the left turn just after the T junction, then through metal barriers and up private drive, then follow riverbank until 6 miles
  • Then once back on riverbank follow this signed path to Finish (Opposite Dunball Wharf)
